How quotas work

Your monthly message pool counts both directions:

  • ✅ Outbound (everything you send via the API)
  • ✅ Inbound (everything your customers send to you)
  • ❌ Status updates (delivered/read/failed) — never counted

Adding a WABA to your plan adds quota to your pool. The pool is shared across all WABAs — a busy phone can borrow capacity from a quiet one.

Why count inbound? Because every inbound webhook hits our infrastructure, persists in our DB, and gets forwarded to your endpoint. Counting both directions keeps the platform sustainable and protects your project from heavy traffic on any single number.

What if I exceed my pool?

You have three options:

  1. Buy a quota pack — a one-time top-up that expires at the end of your billing cycle. No tier change.
  2. Pay overage — every 10K messages over your pool charges at your tier’s overage rate. No interruption.
  3. Upgrade your tier — better quota-to-dollar ratio, more WABAs, more features.

Your dashboard alerts you at 80% and 95% of pool usage with one-click actions.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as one “message”?

Any message that crosses our platform — outbound API call to send, or inbound webhook from Meta to receive. Templates, text, media, location, contacts, all count as 1. Status updates (delivered/read/failed) are never counted.

Does the Sandbox use real Meta or mocked?

Real Meta. The Sandbox uses real gsk_test_ API keys against a real WABA you provision in test mode. Messages route through Meta’s sandbox tier — no charges from Meta either.

Can I downgrade my plan?

Yes, anytime. New tier applies at the start of your next billing cycle. Unused quota does not transfer down.

What happens if I go over my pool without buying a pack?

You’re auto-billed overage at your tier’s rate. No service interruption. We email you at 80% and 95% so you can decide. Hard cap at 130% of pool prevents accidental large bills — past 130%, sending pauses until you confirm extra capacity.

Do you offer non-profit, education, or open-source discounts?

Yes — 50% off any tier with valid documentation. Contact sales@gosendapi.com.

Does Meta’s pricing change?

Meta updates conversation pricing periodically (by region and conversation type). We always show what Meta charges in your /app/billing dashboard — pulled from the pricing object Meta sends with each delivered message.
